Type of timberBelow is a working selection of what we keep on the yard. Stock varies by season — call or email for live availability and to book in physical samples for your project.
Our flagship: dense, resin-rich and stable, with deep amber heartwood. The board we built the company on.
Naturally rot-resistant softwood with low density and a quiet grain — the default for outdoor cladding.
Strong, straight-grained timber prized for structural framing and exposed beams.
Hard, fine-grained native hardwood with a salmon-pink cast that deepens to russet over time.
Tight grain, high tannin and great rot resistance — the gold standard for fine joinery.
Chocolate-brown heartwood with violet undertones; the showpiece species for tables and millwork.
Pacific Northwest hardwood with figure that ranges from quiet to spectacular quilting.
High strength-to-weight ratio; favoured for instrument soundboards and aircraft framing.
Aromatic, durable cedar with very tight, even grain — increasingly hard to source.
We also stock figured grade walnut and maple, reclaimed Douglas fir, black locust and a rotating inventory of import species — teak, ipe, cumaru — for marine and high-traffic decking briefs.
Designers and architects can request a complimentary sample pack of any six species, sent flat-rate within 48 hours. Each piece is labelled with species, finish, hardness rating and stock dimensions.
Tell us what you're building. Our timber team will recommend two or three species and explain the trade-offs in plain English.
